Teaching Practicum

School Experience and Teaching Practicums are part of the programme requirements. They are aimed at letting you gain hands-on experience teaching in an authentic Hong Kong school setting, secondary and primary. There you can experiment with ideas and theories that you cumulated through your early semesters with us, gain experiences interacting with students in a classroom setting and prepare yourself for the teaching profession.

For DSE intakes, School Experience and the first Teaching Practicum takes place in semester 2 of year 4 while the second Teaching Practicum in semester 1 of year 5.

For A Level intakes (from 2011 intake onwards), School Experience and the first Teaching Practicum takes place in semester 2 of year 3 while the second Teaching Practicum in semester 1 of year 4.

In School Experience, you will be introduced to teaching and teacher roles in a school context. You will learn about schools, schooling and teaching from both theoretical and practical perspectives through observation, reflection, participation in school activities and classroom teaching.

During Teaching Practicum, you will be advised by a School Mentor appointed by the host school. You will also be observed by supervisors from the Department of Education Studies.
